Most Exhaustive Free Videos for Commercial Use on Internet

In 2002, for the first time cell phones with built-in cameras appeared in the market. Over years the price to acquire a good quality camera has decreased. More and more people use the mobile cameras as their primary camera. And... the high speed internet is getting cheaper every day. Well... where is all this leading to? For one thing, people are contributing to the b-rolls in high numbers. What costed hundreds of dollars just a decade ago is today free for all to use. Here I have listed a few websites that offer very good quality videos for free.

Among this list CC0 is the best license type where you would not have any restriction whatsoever.

East India Company - Reborn after 135 years

Recognizing the brand equity that the "East India Company" carries, a Bombay born  Indian businessman Sanjiv Mehta bought the company's all intellectual properties. He would like to promote the brand as a luxury food store in London.
Sanjiv is very passionate about the prized possession that he has already spent close to 20 million in establishing it and promoting it. The products range from Indian exotic teas to far eastern products that brings the colonial memories.
The store is beautifully themed to reflect the high social status of the merchandise it carries. Sanjiv may be planning to invest about 100 million to build a chain of East India Company.
Here's a video of the interview from CNN.

Malicious Facebook App spreads via Users Actions

A new type of threat that is plaguing the netizens is through the social networking site- Facebook. But here's a twist - this threat the victims bring upon themselves. Here are two ways in which it spreads :
  • It may start with a benign looking new app alert in your Facebook. When you accept this app, it asks for extended access to the user account to post messages. Most users are so much carried away by the title of that app (see a sample list below) that they do give it extended permissions. It then passes on to your friends in the contacts list.
  • It may appear as a posting from your friend talking about this exciting app. When you click on it it will take you to a Facebook page that contains a code snippet. The instructions on the page asks you to copy the code snippet and paste it in your browser address bar and press enter. When you do that, you just exposed yourself to the threat of identity theft.

Nobody knows for sure what is the final objective of this app but we are seeing its propagation and spread.

Here's a list Facebook app names compiled by websense security:

  • Who Block me?
  • Who is in your mind?
  • Who Always Look into My Profile??
  • Who Always stalks Your Profile?
  • Who has checked your profile?
  • Who Always Appear Offline??
  • Who stalks your profile?
  • Who has seen my profile
  • Who is peeping your profile?
  • Baby nanny
  • Who Always Look into My Album??
  • Who loves you?
  • Who has Viewed Your profile?
  • Who had read my profile?
  • Who often check my album?
  • Whos viewing my profile
  • Who always Block me?
  • Who is reading your information?
  • Who love you?
The ones in the bold face above are the most effective curiosity drivers.

Facebook Security team has already been notified but there are just too many pages it has already created.

A word of advice from ManageMag :
When not sure about an app, do not give permissions to it. It's always a good idea to run one Google search with the app name before granting it full access to your profile info. ( Look for the words "Malicious", "Spam", "Scam" and so forth.)
Take care.. and spread the word. If you come across any other Malicious app names, do write in comments.

Why do projects fail?

This above title has some what become cliché to sell your mantra to the Desperate & Thoroughly Confused. But in reality, when viewed objectively one can make out from the very beginning of the project that there were signs of failing. At least there was one person who knew it all, all the while.
Is it Abilene Paradox or the 80-20 Principle, one might wonder. But in most of the cases, it is both.
Many tends to 'Agree' in stead of Confronting.
Many fail to differentiate between 'Person giving the Idea' from the 'Idea' itself.

Here are a few tips to avoid that "Master of Failed Project" trophy:
1. During initiation of the Project - Be realistic about the "Uncertainty of the Feasibility"
2. During Planning - Be realistic about the "Uncertainty of the Estimates".
During Executing, Monitoring and Controlling -
3. Be assertive and open to circulate "Impact Document" for each requested scope changes.
4. Be clear about the expectations and communicate clearly.
5. Weekly monitor and apply corrective and preventive actions.

I have used weekly considering that the project is longer than a week. Will this ensure project success? May not, however you know where you are heading much before...

And the answer to the title of this article - Most projects fails because the goals may be unrealistic. Follow the simple 5 point test chart to examine your project objectives.

Management is Optional

If its the question of if Management, in any fields, is an absolute necessity, then the answer would be No, absolutely not. Every project in life gets done eventually without proper management . The need for management arises when constraints are imposed. The constrains can be any or all of the following
  • Limited Time
  • Limited Budget
  • Minimal acceptance criteria
  • Expected Quality
For instance, you will learn organic chemistry one day, if you keep on studying it little by little whenever you feel like. But preparing for an exam on organic chemistry takes an all together different commitment. In later case, you will manage your time.

Everything in life is a project if it takes more than one tasks to complete. Whether it's hunting for that particular pair of binoculars or organizing a picnic. If it there are constraints, then Management is the answer. No wonder they say, Plan your holidays properly.
